Golden chance for NRIs to invest in real estate

An Indian property exhibition will be held in Bahrain for the second year running.

The Homes of India Property Exhibition 2008 will take place on January 10-12 at the Bahrain International Exhibition Centre (BIEC).

The announcement was made yesterday by the organisers, Bahrain-based International Trading Company which will hold the event in association with India-based Studioline Conventions.

"The first exhibition was an overwhelming success with a turnout of over 3,500 visitors," Homes of India operations director Michael Vasanth said.

"Estimated dealings worth $15 million were finalised at the last exhibition with inquiries worth $35m negotiated.

"This year we are expecting an increase in the number of visitors to the exhibition and have seen the number of exhibitors increase from 26 companies last year to over 30 builders signing up for the upcoming event."

The exhibition has been advertised as a platform to invest in India for non-resident Indians (NRIs) and will feature apartments, luxurious villas, shopping centres and plots of land for sale. The exhibition will also facilitate visitors to inspect documents before entering into contracts.

"The previous exhibition was very successful which is why exhibitors are coming back in less than a year," co-organiser and Mazen Al Umran Consulting Engineers mechanical engineering plumbing head T M Haridasan said.

"The Indian economy and the property market is booming making it a lucrative sector for NRIs. With the benefits of investments, including 25-30 per cent returns in a space of two to three years and Indian banks ready to pay 85pc of the value of the property, the Indian real estate sector is seen as low-risk with high returns."
